What awards are available?

Student Awards

Each year, MACPA presents "Outstanding Achievement in Accounting" awards to college accounting majors nominated by their accounting department chairs.

Winners receive:

  • Press release to hometown papers announcing award winners
  • Certificate suitable for framing
  • Engraved nameplate on a plaque displayed at the school

The MACPA Outstanding Achievement in Accounting Award is presented to the accounting student who in the judgment of the accounting faculty meets the following criteria:

1. Accounting major of junior status at a four-year Maryland higher education institution (at least 75 credit hours, but not more than 90 credit hours).

2. Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)

3. Minimum GPA of 3.25 in accounting (on a 4.0 scale). Accounting is defined as:

  • Courses required to sit for the CPA exam
  • Minimum requirement completion of two semesters of accounting principles and two semesters of intermediate accounting (12 credits/4 courses)

4. Member of Tomorrow's CPA program

5. Demonstrates leadership skills or involvement in campus, community, and/or professional activities

Note to Accounting Faculty: Accounting faculty receives nomination information about the award annually—no later than February; deadline for submitting award recipient name is May 1.

Educator Awards

You can recognize excellence in accounting education by nominating your favorite accounting instructor for MACPA's Educator Awards!

Frank Blacklock Award

The Frank Blacklock Award (formerly the Outstanding Maryland Accounting Educator Award) recognizes educators for significant contributions to accounting education and the CPA profession through scholarly activities, service to the CPA profession and innovative curriculum development.

Nominees must be a CPA and full-time accounting educator at a Maryland college, university, or community college. He or she must be considered to be exemplary in publishing articles, making presentations, preparing book reviews and other scholarly activity; in professional activities; and educational innovation.

The award winner will receive $250.

Doetsch-Hooper Award

The Doetsch-Hooper Award (formerly the Outstanding Maryland Accounting Teaching Award) gives high regard to teaching effectiveness and innovation, student evaluations, student interaction, and other factors that signify excellence in teaching.

The award also considers the contributions that the instructor makes to his or her institution and to professional activities. Nominees must be a full-time accounting instructor at a Maryland college, university or community college; distinguished for excellence in classroom teaching, student motivation and educational innovation; and active in his/her institution and in the accounting profession. The award winner will receive $250.
