Towson CPAs put away the paper
Most people's images of accountants involve paper thick ledgers, overflowing files or briefcases bulging with financial statements. But at Towson-based CPA firm KAWG&F, accountants are more likely to carry sleek laptops than bulging briefcases. baltimore.bizjournals.com/baltimore/

Can IT save companies from the Sarbanes-Oxley monster?
Is Sarbanes-Oxley a monster, destroying companies without the huge technology budget needed to automate the compliance burden? Or is Sarbanes-Oxley easily tamed with the right technology infrastructure? It appears to be a little of both. But as with many problems, there are many ways of approaching a solution and no clear and obvious path. NewsFactor Network's Lisa Valentine takes a closer look.

TCPA member profile
Meet Kristy Kuczenski, a senior at Salisbury University and employee at Pigg, Krahl, Stern & Co., P.A.
Graduation date: May 20, 2004 for bachelor's, then on to the MBA.
Hobbies: I am addicted to simple little computer puzzle games.
Favorite movie: I can't really think of one. I don't see a lot of movies, but I laughed a lot at "Meet the Parents."
Why I want to be a CPA: I love to work with numbers, and I think it is a well-respected profession.
Favorite course: Personal Income Tax, Principles of Accounting I. (Don't you wish it was all that simple?)
Least favorite course: Corporate Income Tax (I had a bad teacher I still enjoy learning about and preparing corporate income tax returns), and I thought Marketing was a waste of time!
What people say when I tell them my career choice: Most say, "Eww, I hate math too much to do that," then they are impressed, then they usually ask me (jokingly) if I will do their taxes!
