Students hop on the accounting bandwagon

AICPA reorganizes online exam information

The AICPA has reorganized the www.cpa-exam.org Web site to make it easier for candidates to find CPA exam-related information. The site now has buttons on "How To Apply," "Registration & Scheduling" and "Tutorial & Sample Tests." Documents / links are now organized under headings such as "Getting Started," "Prepare for the Exam" and "Take the Exam." An updated PowerPoint presentation about the computerized CPA exam (with speaker notes) is available on the site under "Educator Resources" at:

Personal finance

Attention! UMUC received a grant from Household Finance to build this financial literacy site for the U.S. military — but it's great for civilians, too.

Older graduates face some clear obstacles

Question: I am changing careers and have returned to school to get a bachelor's degree in finance or accounting. As a graduate in my mid-30s, will I have as good of a chance as my younger counterparts in landing a potentially lucrative career?

Off the beaten path

In today's world, where many professional people will have more than one career before they retire, CPAs have a hidden asset — a window into many client businesses. This plus their broad-based financial skills can help them seize an entrepreneurial opportunity. Here are guidelines for considering whether to follow a different drummer and profiles of some CPAs who've made a switch or added an enterprise line.
