Job Market: Winter audit and tax interns

The Reznick Group is looking for audit and tax interns for its Bethesda and Baltimore offices. This paid position offers effective on-the-job training as the intern provides fundamental accounting and appropriate administration support to client engagements. Interns must be working toward a bachelor's degree in accounting and have excellent communication skills, computer skills and a desire to learn. Interns need to have successfully completed Principles I & II and be enrolled in Intermediate I. Interns must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week. Intern opportunities are available starting Jan. 3, 2005 through the completion of tax season, April 15, 2005. Please specify the office location you are interested in working at. Some business-school students are getting a taste of Donald Trump’s reality TV show before they collect their degrees. Professors at some schools are creating entire courses modeled on the show's competitive nature.

CPA exam 'Candidate Bulletin' available

The revised Uniform CPA Examination Candidate Bulletin is now available online at www.cpa-exam.org. This Oct. 18 bulletin includes updated information about the notice to schedule (under "Step 2: Receive Your Notice to Schedule"); what you need to bring and know the day of your exam (under "Step 4: Take Your Examination"); and score reporting, including rescore and appeal procedures (look at "Step 5: Receive Your Score").


Reading, writing and financial literacy

Amid a crisis in financial literacy, bankers and CPAs are teaching everyone ages 5 to 95 about debits, credits and budgets. CPAs are also counting on financial literacy initiatives to help rebuild trust that may have been lost during the recent accounting scandals.

  Personal finance: Ten tips on using credit cards wisely

No. 1: Be aware of teaser rates. Credit cared companies sometimes offer low introductory interest rates to attract new customers. These rates typically last for only a few months and then jump as high as 20 percent, so it’s important that you carefully compare offers from several different issuers before selecting a card.

Good deed rewarded: WorldCom whistleblower makes CPA Hall of Fame

Cynthia Cooper, CPA, the former WorldCom vice president of internal audit who exposed the $11 billion fraud at the telecommunications company, will be inducted this month into the 2004 American Institute of CPAs Business & Industry Hall of Fame.
