Demand high for CPAs at Maryland firms

CPA firms are competing with each other as well as corporations beefing up their accounting departments and federal agencies. Maryland faces a more difficult challenge because of its proximity to the federal government, which needs accountants proficient in Sarbanes-Oxley regulations.

Three top tips for getting hired

    1. Leave your personal problems at the door when meeting prospective employers or recruiters.

    2. Always do what you say and / or promise to do. For example, follow-up on all telephone voicemails, e-mails, written correspondence, etc., when a response is requested.

    3. If a prospective employer and / or recruiter calls and / or e-mails you about an opportunity or if they have a question that sounds like they need an answer right away, first try responding by a telephone call and leave a voicemail if you do not reach them directly. Then, if you do not hear back later that same day, send an e-mail that evening or the next morning as a follow-up to the voicemail.
