Kudos to TCPA members

Jeannette M. Pessaro graduated in May from the University of Baltimore with an MS in accounting. She now works for HCIT, a small, growing computer firm, as the accounting manager / controller. "Without my degree (and my experience) this job would not have been available to me," said Jeannette. "While MBAs seem to be the most desired graduate degree, some employers are finding that they want not only the CPA but the MS with its intensity in not only accounting but finance and IT."

Aisah Goodridge graduated summa cum laude with her bachelor's in accounting from Morgan State University. She accepted a position at Ernst & Young's Manhattan office in New York.

April Joy, of Bowie State, won the NABA 2003 Distinguish Collegian and will be in Boston at the conference in July. She also received the Meela Lott Service Award for personal and academic recognition plus the excellence in education award.

'Monkey wrench' found in electronic CPA exam program

NASBA delegates said many prospective CPAs would be unable to prepare for one of the new exam's major innovations — a requirement to perform Internet-based research. Many colleges, particularly small ones, cannot afford to buy access to the Internet research programs used in the test, which inhibits their students' ability to prepare. Read the article here.

What does 'audit' actually mean and what's so important about auditing?

This past year the CPA profession has been in the news headlines almost everyday. The profession is under regulatory scrutiny. Arthur Anderson, one of the largest and most prestigious CPA firms, is out of business as a result of its involvement as the auditor in the Enron debacle. Now another one of the "Big 4" firms is under attack by the SEC for its conduct with its former client, Xerox. What's going on? Most people really don't understand what the role of the CPA is all about. This article will explain some things to you in plain English.

Thanks, profs!
